Surrounding District and Amenities

The local village La Chapelle de Brain has a general store selling a good range of wines, daily bread, meat and charcutiere. Attached is a bar and restuarant. There are further bakers and general stores at Belse and Renac. Also there is a mobile butchers and fish rounds throught the village. You know when they are around as they sound their hooters!

Redon, the local market town is 15 mins by car and has a market on Monday and Friday mornings selling fresh produce and fish. There are two large hypermarkets at Redon plus all the usual shops, bars, resturants, and tourist office. Redon is on the river La Vilaine and the Nante/Brest Canal. The main TVG railway to Paris and West France is available at Redon.

There is some very good walking and cycling especially along the towpaths of the river La Villaine and in the valley of the river Don at Guemene-Penfao. For swimming, picnicing, sailboarding, and sailing the lakes Etan Aumme and Rochford-en-Terre is close by.

Further south are St. Nazaire, Le Croisic and Le Baule. St. Nazaire is on the estuary of the Loire and is a port of historical interest including British Landings and German U-Boat pens of the second world war. Le Croisic close to St. Nazaire is a pretty port and fishing town with some excellent restuarants. La Baule further along the coast is one of the premier resorts in Europe.
